Stephanie Joy (Harris) Sowders

Stephanie "Joy" Sowders, 69, of Temple, GA passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at her home. She was born on February 12, 1952, in Atlanta, GA to the late John Charles and Whilamena Mae Darnell Harris.

She worked in the healthcare industry in home health for several years, and she was a caretaker to many children and elderly people. Mrs. Sowders was a great cook and baker who was known for her red velvet cake.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Sowders of 27 years; sons, Ashley (Lisa Ann) Gilham of Brookhaven, Steve (Robin) Sowders of Bremen, Kevin (Susan) Gilham of Concord, and Justin Sowders of Rockmart; daughter, Kimberly Sowders of Marietta; brothers, Johnny Harris, Jr. of Covington and Victor (Libby) Harris of Ellijay; sisters, Kim (Ricky) Green of Buchanan and Shawn Pierce of Douglasville; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sowders was preceded in death by her brother, Myron Harris.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 to 1:00.
