Reverend David Harold Chaffin Sr. passed away on March 9, 2023. He was born on April 17, 1944 to the late Bud Walter and Grace Evelyn Chaffin. David was a lifelong member of Unity Baptist Church. He was the pastor at Willow Springs Baptist Church for over 30 years and truly loved his church and congregation. David was a foot washing Baptist preacher with the New Hope Association who spent over 50 years preaching the Word of God. He was a godly man of strong faith who loved God and his family. He cherished his sweet grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved going to the mountains. He also loved NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves. David was very loved and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry Chaffin, Donald Chaffin, Steve Chaffin, Judy Presley, and Barbara Beavers. He is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Irma Chaffin; his children, David Harold "Stormy" Chaffin Jr., Misty Dawn (Doyle) Harp, Christy Darlene (DeWayne) Lee; eleven grandchildren, Paul (Ericka) Chaffin, Seth (Amanda) Chaffin, Thad (Randall) Cummings, Daniel (Lyndsay) Harp, Katelyn Harp, Brandi (John) Binger, Jessica (Troy) Smith, Kayla (Caleb) Evans, Alan Holmes, Becca (Zach) Starnes, Patrick Lee; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ellis Chaffin, Emma Chaffin, Annie Chaffin, Norah Chaffin, Rhett Harp, Walker Harp, Jayden Binger, Jonah Binger, Brooke Binger, Landon Smith, Peyton Evans, Boone Evans, and Pryor Evans.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral services for Reverend David will be on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Unity Baptist Church. He will lie-in-state from 1:00pm until 2:00pm with a service beginning at 2:00pm with Reverend Jeremy Locklear, Reverend Kyle Tibbetts, and Pastor Harold Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Paul Chaffin, Seth Chaffin, Thad Cummings, Caleb Evans, Daniel Harp, and Jayden Binger serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
