Laura Browand

November 11, 1930 — January 8, 2021

Laura Browand, age 90, of Gainesboro, TN. passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 in Livingston, TN due to complications from Covid-19.  She was born on November 11, 1930 in Shelbyville, IN to her late parents; Forest and Edith Kemper. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Browand along with her son; Michael "Mike" Browand, brothers; Robert Kemper and Raymond Kemper. Laura was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, neighbor, and friend. Laura was a stay-at-home mother and was extremely active in her community.  She loved to cook and have big parties.  She loved to sew and created things without using a pattern.  She wrote beautiful music and poetry.  She grew up in central Indiana on a farm and used to tell stories of her and her brothers fishing in the creek and helping her father with the farming.  She met and married Paul Browand in 1951, where they lived on campus at Purdue University, while he attended school.  They moved to the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and their 3rd and final child was born.  From there they moved to what the family fondly called “the farmhouse” in Wayland, MI.  She wrote, directed, made costumes, and choreographed the Wayland variety shows for many years to raise money for the band boosters.  Eventually they settled in Gainesboro, TN, where they built their beautiful log home.  Laura designed the house and layout and built a beautiful stone fence that was all around the house and down the long driveway.  Laura was a great storyteller, and she did love to tell those stories.  She deeply loved her children and her grandchildren.  She lived for the summers where she had her grandchildren come to Tennessee and her and “Poppy” could take them on road trips in their motor home.  She was giving and kind and her faith in God was extraordinarily strong.

Laura is survived by her loving daughters; Cindy Denman of Marietta, GA., Paula and her husband David Cross of Marietta, GA., sister; Mary Alice Jackman, grandchildren; Jeff and his wife Meredith Browand, Nicole Browand, Paul Charles and his wife Natalie Jones, Joel and his wife Elisabeth Jones, Christopher Denman, great-grandchildren; John Browand, Pete Browand, Molly Browand, Oliver Jones, and Marleigh Jones.

Funeral Services for Laura will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 1:00 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. Interment will follow at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Memorial Cemetery in Kennesaw, GA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home.

If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn, and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mrs. Browand safe.  The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who may be unable to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time).
