Kenneth Mell Strickland

May 22, 1933 — July 6, 2021

HIRAM—Kenneth Mell Strickland, 88, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Hiram, GA, where he served as a deacon and longtime member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, he retired from Lockheed-Martin after close to 30 years.  Additionally, he served in the United States Army (1956-59) and served a number of years as a Scout Leader with Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents John Mell Strickland and Ruth Carter Strickland.

He is survived by his loving wife and dearest friend of 64 years LaDonna Smitherman Strickland; daughter, Susan (Bill) Lindsey of Douglasville; son, Ken Strickland of Hiram; daughter, Jennifer (Doug) Cackett of Peachtree City; grandchildren:  Zach (Kaley) Lindsey of  Dallas, GA, Kent Strickland of Hiram, Halie (Josh) Bridges of Leonardtown, MD, Khristina Strickland of Hiram, Jacob Cackett of Peachtree City, and Mary Jolea Cackett of Peachtree City; great-grandchildren:  Eliott Cordova, Scarlett Bridges, Sayler Lindsey, Lorelai Bridges, Grant Lindsey, Gabriel Bridges, Solomon Bridges, and Hadley Lindsey.

Mr. Strickland also leaves behind a large extended family of brothers and sisters:  Marie (Franklin) Clay, Russell (Linda) Strickland, Patsy (Jerry) Brown, all of Hiram; Bettye Smitherman, Chatsworth, GA, Arvile Smitherman, Marietta, GA, Erleene (R.L.) Templeton, Ray Land, and Jerry Smitherman, all of Ringgold, GA, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church at 12:00 with Dr. Wayne Meadows officiating and Tyson Land speaking.

Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, GA.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Poplar Springs building fund.

Condolences may be left for the family on our website, www.samclarkfuneralhome.com on the tribute wall.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday at Clark Funeral Home.
