Jimmy Smith Jordan

December 28, 1931 — August 22, 2020

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jim Jordan. He was 88 years old. He was born in Buford, Georgia and after high school he served two years in the US Navy. Following his service in the military, he was recruited to play basketball at the University of Alabama. He played there on the freshman team and remained a lifelong Crimson Tide Fan. He transferred to Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina where he played senior basketball until graduation. He taught and coached at both Buford High School and North Cobb High School. He won state championships in track at Buford and tennis at North Cobb. At North Cobb, he coached both football and girls’ basketball. He moved on to Paulding County High School in the early 70’s where he served as an assistant principal. He later became Transportation Director and then retired serving as Superintendent for the Paulding County School System. Jim committed 34 years of his life to teaching, coaching, administration and leading in the educational community. Blessed with the ability to communicate and build relationships, Jim continued to be an active participant in community organizations, associations, and charities.

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Westcott Jordan, sister, Winnie Jordan Chambecs and his parents, Frank Cleveland and Lizzie Smith Jordan.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Jay and Wendy Jordan of Andalusia, AL and Jody and Cindy Jordan of Rockmart, GA; grandchildren Annette, Anna, and Cleve; and by a lifetime of former students and friends who remained in his heart and mind until the end.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Martha Dye and Pastor Thomas Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in Peaceful Meadows Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers; Craig Wilcox, Ty Wilcox, Stacey Barber, Jackson Barber, David Hardy, and D.J. Thomas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time). If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mr. Jordan safe.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to Rockmart First United Methodist Church in loving memory of Mr. Jordan.

Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
