Homer Benson Rackley, born May 29, 1929 in Dallas, Ga. Died July 27, 2020, age 91.

Preceded in death by father, Warner Samuel Rackley, mother, Nannie June Freeman Rackley, Sisters Vellie Benson, Pauline Henson, Sarah Dokey, brothers James Rackley, Marvin Rackley, Hollis Rackley, Willard Rackley.

Survived by sister, Clay Lee Rakestraw, three children, Connie Hayes (Bill), Cindy Ramey (Dwayne), Chris and Fran Rackley, five grandchildren, Stephanie Birchell, Emma Hayes, Sam Hayes, Melissa Thomas, Sarah Neeley, Jonathan Harrell, five great grandchildren, spouse of 63 years, Myra Hunt Rackley, several nieces and nephews and many many friends

He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer with 21 years in the Army, where he had been stationed at US Embassies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tehran, Iran.  He was deployed to Vietnam and served one year during the Vietnam War.  He visited several other countries including Egypt, Japan, Germany, and France.  He worked civil service for over 10 years at Fort McPherson, coordinating training for the Forscom Language Institute at Brigham Young University. He also worked at Lenox Personnel, and John Sexton (now Beatrice) foods.  He managed a Zachary’s Men’s Clothing Store at Greenbriar Mall after retirement.  He served 18 years as Chairman of Paulding County’s Board of Equalization.  Through the years, he attended classes at the University of Southern Mississippi, Georgia State University and received his degree from the University of Western Illinois. He received many commendations, awards, and medals.  He ran a small catering business in Paulding called “Rack’s Catering” for several years.  He was the president of the Georgia Gospel Singing Convention, travelling to multiple counties to round up support for the organization.  He organized many of the 4th of July singings which were held in and around Dallas.. He was an ordained Deacon for New Hope Baptist Church, and also attended Picketts Mill Baptist.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dallas where he sang in the choir.

He loved gardening and his flower beds were the envy of many.  He loved singing with his friends.  He loved a good suit, a good laugh, and a good steak.

His proudest accomplishment in life is his family.  He worked an entire lifetime to give them the world.  He will be deeply missed.  We love you Dad.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Homer Rackley will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM from The Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamar Rackley, Rev. Don Rackley and Mr. Sam Hayes officiating. A private interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions. (No more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time) If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mr. Rackley safe.
