Donald “Don” Hoyt Hughes, 88, of Dallas, GA passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 25, 1933, in Marietta, GA. He was a long-time member of Celebration Church of God. He served in the US Army and owned and operated Rolan Business Machines in Rome, GA for more than 23 years, which is now run by his son.
He was a wonderful daddy who was always a great example of the Father’s love. Those who called him Pawpaw say if there was ever a man who loved the Lord it was him. He was a humble prayer warrior and was always going to church and reading his Bible; not many can say they read it through as many times as he did. With such joy in his heart, he was always singing a goofy tune or doing a silly dance. His love for humor kept them laughing and kept his sweet wife shaking her head. He had a dry humor, loved to sing, read, and he loved boxing, but loved his grandkids best of all. His family will look forward to him greeting them with a song or by reciting a poem one sweet day when the Lord calls them home.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Myrland Fowler Hughes; son, David (Gail) Hughes of Kingston; daughters, Teresa (Bruce) Hall of Dallas, and Lori (Sherrill) Corntassel of Rome; eight adoring grandchildren, Chad (Christy) Hughes, Tifany (Ben) Harkins, Brittany (Rock) Toler, Meranda (Johnny) Gaines, Ryan Hall, Amber (Ed) Hicks, Micah (Tiffany) Hughes, Kayla (Kelvin) Postell; and thirteen precious great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter and Mary Emma Hawkins Hughes, two brothers and two sisters.
