Bob Butler

December 10, 1932 — August 30, 2020

Robert Donald Butler was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 10, 1932 to the late Evelyn Ethelle and Guy Butler. He passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Sexton Butler and his brother, Guy Edward Butler. Robert served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and not only did he serve his country but he loved his country fiercely. When he got out of the military, he worked in the printing industry for his entire career. Robert’s relationship with the Lord served as his guide for the way he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, church family, and anyone he came into contact with. He fell in love with Jean Sexton Butler and they spent 62 wonderful married years raising their three sons, Anthony Keith Butler, Timothy Scott Butler, and Todd Alan Butler (Tracy). Throughout his life, he managed to make meaningful connections within multiple different communities. Not only was he an ordained deacon at New Georgia Baptist Church for over 30 years, Sunday School teacher and served on numerous church committees, but he was also a women’s softball coach, little league coach for his children, and an avid Georgia Tech fan.

He was a family man and loved having his four granddaughters around, Jamie Oetting (Truman), Heather Gravley (Micah), Kristen Monroe (Travis), and Kelci Butler. The same went for his  seven great-grandchildren, Makayla and Rylan Oetting, Hope, Bella, and Abbey Gravley, and Jake and Morgan Monroe. After spending 62 years with Jean, the Lord called her home. Robert grieved the loss of his wife for almost two years when the Lord orchestrated a reunion between he and Jean Benton. Over the next several months they were married by Thomas Cole in a Holy Ceremony. She filled his last days with laughter and joy and they shared a dear love. He lovingly embraced her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
