William Edward Gilbert

William "Bill" Edward Gilbert passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas, Georgia at the age of 76 on April 19, 2024. Bill was born in Berlin, New Hampshire as the oldest of five, on August 28, 1947 to the late Wilfred and Alice (Hurley) Gilbert.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as the forever big brother with a story for everyone.

Bill married Lise (Marceau) Gilbert in 1968 in Berlin, New Hampshire. They immediately moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, where he started his 27-year career with Coca-Cola-working his way all the way up to Director of Research and Development of Coca-Cola USA in Georgia, where he retired. To his union with Lise were born two children, Gina and Matthew.

Bill was a devout Catholic his whole life, joining the Knights of Columbus at the age of 17 and eventually becoming Grand Knight. He attended St. Vincent de Paul in Dallas, Georgia for 25 years where he was an usher. Throughout his life, he has devoted countless hours to the community, most recently to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store.

Bill's hobbies included fishing (in his youth), golfing, and spending time with his family. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Gilbert; sister-in-law, Ramona, Gilbert; and brother-in-law, Daniel Marcou.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lise Gilbert; daughter, Gina (David) Carter of Cedar Lake, Michigan; son, Matthew (Lori) Gilbert of Tignall, Georgia; brothers, Albert (Donna) Gilbert of Gorham, New Hampshire, Joseph Gilbert of Wellington, Florida; sister, Helen Marcou of Gorham, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Jill (Joseph Ausmus) Carter, Olivia Carter, Emmi Carter, Malby Gilbert, Carter Gilbert, Lane Gilbert, Caleb Wilson, Coleman Wilson; great-grandchildren Noah Ausmus and Hazel Wilson.  

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Trinity Hospice, with special thanks to Danita and Betty for their excellent care, as well as to Lori from Visiting Angels.

A funeral mass to honor and celebrate Bill's life is pending. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be in attendance.
