William Sherrill Brantley, Jr.
March 18, 1940 - August 12, 2026
William Sherrill Brantley, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was a true Atlanta "Grady Baby" and graduate of O'Keefe High School, William served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1964. He married his childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Martha, after growing up around the corner from one another, beginning a marriage that would span an extraordinary 66 years.
William approached life with curiosity, generosity, humor, and a wonderful sense of adventure. He attended the Woodrow Wilson Night School of Law, took flying lessons and soloed airplanes. He loved kayaking, sailing, remote-controlled airplanes, fixing things, and just about any activity someone suggested. He seemingly owned every tool ever made and was always ready to use one to help someone else. Above all, William was incredibly funny. Family and friends will remember his ability to make people laugh simply by being himself, whether he was working on a project, telling a story, or riding a Razor down a hill in his robe.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Kathy and Trey; grandchildren, Colby, Kelsey, and Emma; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Jerri and Judy; and brothers, Lamar and Laney. William touched countless lives through his kindness, generosity, friendship, and laughter. He leaves behind a family who loved him dearly, many wonderful friends, and a lifetime of stories that will keep everyone smiling for years to come.
