Robert D. Russell Sr., 84, of Hiram, GA passed away on Saturday, May 29,2021 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital. He was born on July3, 1936 in Miami, FL to the late Benjamin Henry Russell and Annie Lucille Dunn Russell. Mr. Russell was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Hiram. He served in the US Army Reserves as a member of Signal Corps. He worked for IBM for 35 years as a Service Engineer and as a member of Management. He enjoyed his time working in the field of Amateur Radio and was highly active with the IBM Amateur Radio Club. He recently received a Lifetime Membership Award for his dedication supporting his Amateur radio family. His call sign was WD4PAQ. He was as avid woodworker and electronics hobbyist.
He is survived by his three sons, David and Michelyn Russell of Hiram, Tom and Melodie Russell of Hiram, Mark Russell of Kennesaw, and seven grandchildren, Michael, Briggs, Haley, Brittany, Madison, Connor, and Caitlyn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Cowart Russell, and daughter-in-law, Allison Russell.
In accordance with Mr. Russell’s wishes, his body was cremated; a private memorial service is planned for June 12, 2021, at Bethel United Methodist Church.
