Remona Thomas

September 20, 1936 — May 19, 2025

Remona Ann Thomas, age 88, passed away on May 19, 2025. Born on September 20, 1936, in Kinston, North Carolina, to the late William and Mary Catherine Barnett, Remona was a guiding light in the lives of her family and friends.

As a devoted homemaker, Remona approached life with a joyful spirit and a heart full of kindness. She found peace and happiness in life's simple pleasures-working in her yard, dancing to her favorite tunes, or spending quiet afternoons fishing by the pond. Her fondness for flowers was matched only by her affection for her ducks, each of which she named and cherished. Time spent with Janelle, her daughter, whether dancing, cruising, or enjoying the beauty of nature-was among her greatest joys.

Remona was a longtime member of High Shoals Baptist Church, where she not only worshipped faithfully but also served on several committees. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church walls as she also served the American Legion showing her deep respect and support for veterans and their families.

A passionate advocate for those who served, Remona's generosity and compassion knew no bounds. Her quiet strength and enduring faith left an imprint on everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Remona is preceded in death by her loving husband, Max Thomas; her daughter, Janelle Marshburn; brother, Ardell Barnette; sisters, Elizabeth Hall, Rose Kinzel, Lois Price, Leola Rackley; and sister-in-law, Betty Barnett.

She is survived by her son, Leonard Taylor; brother, John Barnett and wife Sally; grandchildren, John Harrellson Jr., Alexis Taylor; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Kayleah; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
