Raymond Baxter, age 85, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born in Dallas, Raymond was the son of the late Hubert Baxter and Mary Blackston.
Raymond was a veteran of the US Army, where he served our country honorably while stationed in Alaska. He retired, with 34 years of employment from Ford Motor Assembly Plant in Hapeville. After retiring, he continued to work, first for the Richard Petty Driving Experience, and then Raymond began providing security for NASCAR at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Raymond had many hobbies during his life, such as horses, antique cars, and motorcycles, but his love of the Lord and his salvation were the most important things. Raymond was saved while sitting on his toolbox at a small church service during his lunch hour at Ford. He never met a stranger and would ask anyone he came across if they knew where they were going when death found them. Raymond loved his church, Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Aragon.
Raymond meant so much to family and friends, and they will cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laverne Ellis Baxter; son, Barry L. Baxter; daughter, Christy B. Singletary and her husband Jerry; brother, Billy T. Baxter and his wife Mildred; and sister, Judy Baxter Williams. He is also survived by grandchildren Christopher Baxter and his wife Allie, Allison Padgett and her husband Nick, Lauren Smith and her husband Michael, Benjamin Baxter, Jared Singletary and his fiancé Lynlee, Breanna Brown and her husband Daniel; great grandchildren Noah Baxter, Barryn Baxter, Caleb Smith, Summer Padgett, Caden Smith, William Padgett, Mason Baxter, and Saylor Singletary. In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his sisters Peggy Baxter Blackmon and Shelby Baxter Kemp.
The Baxter family will be receiving family and friends on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Clark Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
