Marcia McBride

September 21, 1946 — May 9, 2026

Marcia Horne McBride, 79, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away on May 9, 2026 with her loving family by her side.

A lifelong Georgian, Marcia was born in Atlanta to the late Ernest Walton Horne, Jr. and late Jewell Lorene Adams. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael ("Mike") Scott McBride, and her brother, Ernest Walton ("Walt") Horne, III.

Marcia and Mike were married on August 22, 1967, at Confederate Avenue Baptist Church in Atlanta. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, love, and service. In their early years of marriage, Marcia faithfully supported Mike in his seminary studies and pastoral ministry while raising their two daughters. The couple served several churches over the years, with Mansfield Baptist Church holding a particularly special place in their hearts.

After Mike's passing, Marcia moved with her daughters to Decatur, Georgia, where she remained devoted to her faith and community. She was a faithful member and deacon of Valley Brook Baptist Church for 41 years and served as the Music Director for 23 of those years. Gifted with a beautiful soprano voice, Marcia found great joy in singing and leading others in worship. Later in life, after moving to be closer to family, she became a member of New Canaan Baptist Church, where she was warmly welcomed.

Marcia was deeply committed to education. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Atlanta and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1983 and a Master of Education in 1987, both from Georgia State University. She dedicated 26 years to teaching at Hooper Alexander Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of her students.

Above all else, Marcia's greatest joy was her family. She cherished time spent together-whether preparing special holiday meals, traveling together, or simply enjoying everyday conversations. She was a pillar of strength and a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

Marcia is survived by her loving daughters, Amy McBride Walker (Chris Walker) and Bethany Marie McBride; her cherished grandchildren, Michael Walker and Kalyn Walker; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Horne; her brother-in-law, David McBride (Joy McBride); her sister-in-law, Neva Miller; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
