Lee McGarity, age 82, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital. He was born on January 26, 1938 in Hiram, GA, to his late parents; Hubert and Nettie McGarity. Lee was a retired sales manager for the resale lot at Hardy Chevrolet, where he had worked for 20 years and also drove a school bus for Paulding County School System since 2000. Mr. McGarity was a faithful member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. Lee was first ordained as a minister in 1969 where he pastored several churches over the many years. His first church he pastored was New Light Baptist Church in Acworth, he then pastored Fellowship Baptist Church in Cartersville, followed by McPherson Baptist Church in Dallas, followed by Ridge Road Baptist Church in Hiram and lastly, Canaan Fellowship Baptist Church in Mableton. In Lee’s free time, he greatly enjoyed Racecars and The Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. McGarity was a member of Acworth Masonic Lodge #176 for many years, which he greatly enjoyed. Lee wore many hats: preacher, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother just to name a few. He loved God and his family, the Georgia Bulldogs, Nascar and Donald Trump. Sometimes, he was stubborn and ornery at times but he loved fiercely and could tell a joke like no one else. Mr. McGarity will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. McGarity is survived by his loving wife, Laura Margaret McGarity of Dallas, GA, children; Rhonda Sutton and her husband, Wade of Ellijay, GA, Leigh Anne Plemons and her husband, Jimmy of Temple, GA, Bryan McGarity and his wife, Shannon of Hiram, GA, sisters; Barbara Daniel of Acworth, GA, Linda Tyson of Acworth, GA, Jackie McGarity of Acworth, GA, grandchildren; Heather (Tim) Gribben of Temple, GA, Kyle Sutton of Ellijay, GA, Kristen (Ben) Huckeba of Temple, GA, Jade (Clay) Goin of Hiram, GA, great grandchildren; Jackson Gribben, Tucker Gribben, Kaiden Goin, Cooper Gribben, Millie Gribben, Luella Huckeba and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. McGarity will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM from the Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time). If attending the service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mr. McGarity safe.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to New Beginnings Baptist Church in loving memory of Mr. McGarity.
