Joseph Stone

May 10, 1965 — September 21, 2025

We will always remember the 21st day of September when our beloved Joseph William Stone, went home to God and all the family and friends waiting for him. Joe was a man of many words and much love, fulfilling various roles for all the people in his life with arms that had an expansive reach. He was the first child and only son born on May 5, 1965, to Bill Stone (deceased) and Paula Stone. Joe was a devoted husband for 35 years to Donna Stone, a father to Jon and Zach Stone and Jon's wife, Chelsea Moyers Stone, a brother to Francine van Wagenen, Antoinette Tardy and Stephanie Stone and their respective husbands, Vincent van Wagenen and Matt Ross, an uncle to Chad Stone, Stone Tardy and Celeste Tardy, and a great uncle to Chad's daughter, Isabella Stone, and his bonus family, Brandon and Audrey Moyers. In addition to a large, loving family, Joe and Donna have been fortunate to have others to add to their strong support system, like lifelong friends Robert and Piper Mohl, terrific friends and neighbors, Deb and Scott Law, and Donna's Abney family. Joe was also a proud dog parent to his beloved Eleanor Roosevelt a/k/a Ellie, who was predeceased by his loyal Bree Bree, who is now resting at his feet.

Joe was a proud member of the United States Air Force serving in the Gulf War and other military operations around the world. As part of his service, he received several awards: the 1992 Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the 79th Fighter Squadron, RAF Upper Heyford, 1997 Air Force Commendation Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, 1998 Vermont National Guard Commendation Medal, and1998 NCO of the Year for the 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard.

There will never be enough words to adequately describe such an incredible man with all the lives that he touched and influenced that extend beyond those mentioned. With effortless energy and grace, Joe reached into the hearts of others wherever he went. To all his neighbors, friends and extensive family who have not been specifically named, it in no way diminishes the incredible bond he developed with them and the love shared. Joe's love language was service through cooking and beautifying the world through gardening.
