John Wayne Turner

June 9, 1948 — June 11, 2025

Mr. John Wayne Turner, age 77, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025. He was born on June 9, 1948, in Austell, Georgia, the son of the late William Robert Turner and the late Florine Davis Martin. John Wayne devoted his life to his family, faith, and service to his country and community.

John Wayne honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, where he was stationed in Germany as a Military Police officer. After his military service, he became a dedicated lineman at Georgia Power Company, where he worked for 38 years before retiring.

A man of faith, John Wayne was a Baptist and found joy in sharing laughter and light with those around him. He was well known for his quick wit, zingers, and playful teasing, always ready with a pun or humorous remark to uplift those in his company.

An avid college football fan, John Wayne passionately supported the Georgia Bulldogs. His strength as a provider was unmatched, and he took great pride in caring for his loved ones.

John Wayne cherished the beauty of nature, particularly the mountains, and created lasting memories camping with his family in the Smoky Mountains. His love for animals was evident in the affection he showed for his pets, notably Potter and Savannah, both of whom have passed on.

In addition to his parents, John Wayne is also preceded in death by his son, Matthew John Turner; his sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Tommy Shook, his sister, Brenda's twin, Linda Yother; and his sister-in-law, Becky Alcorn.

John Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Shelia Roberts Turner; his daughter, Beth (Danny) Bryant; his brother, Jack Yother; his sisters, Brenda Hornbuckle and Debbie (Tim) Garner; as well as his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Doug) Hill, Mike (Pat) Roberts, Tom Roberts, Randall (Robin) Roberts and Keith Alcorn; several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, June 15, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
