John Chaffin

John Palmer Chaffin, 75, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born on July 11, 1948, a son of the late John Bradford Chaffin and Aileen Lovelady Chaffin in Phoenix, Arizona.

John served his country in the United States Army. He started his service in 1969 and was Honorably Discharged in 1971, after receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defence Service Medal. John worked at Delta Airlines in Production Control for 33 years until he retired. He then worked for Top Flight Aerostructures in Dallas, Georgia for 6 years.

John's favorite thing to do was go bike riding with his wife Jane along the Silver Comet Trail. He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren. John was a born again Christian, and was a member of Westridge Church in Dallas, Georgia. He loved collecting pipes from around the world. John loved watching birds, and was a huge dog lover. His latest dog Laney, after rescued from a local shelter became his constant companion until his passing. Laney enriched John and Jane's life, and will remain a companion to Jane in John's absence.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Chaffin and Carolyn Dillard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jane Chaffin; a son, Michael (Laura) Chaffin of East Grand Rapids, Michigan; two daughters, Amanda (Brian) Roper, of Macon, Georgia, and Lauren Nelson, of Dallas, Georgia; a brother, Paul (Joy) Chaffin, of Piedmont, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Parker (Sydney) Chaffin, Avery Chaffin, Alex Chaffin, Brooks Roper, Brady (Emmie) Roper, Brett Roper, and Lillian Nelson; one great-grandson, William Roper; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors for John will be held at The Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr. Canton, GA 30114 on Monday, May 27, 2024 at 9:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's honor to the American Cancer Society.
