JoAn Hammond Hanes of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born on December 8, 1929, in Greensboro, Georgia, JoAn was the beloved daughter of Annie Ruth Moon Hammond and John Hoke Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Albert Johnston Jr.; her parents; and her three sisters-Hokie, Peggy, and Katherine. Remarkably, JoAn passed on what would have been their 75th wedding anniversary-an eternal testament to their enduring love, which began with their marriage in 1950.
JoAn was a devoted mother to her sons, Jerry Johnston (Patsy) of Powder Springs and Larry Johnston (Jan) of Sandy Springs. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Will Rice (Harmony), Ashley Cassan (Josh), Brantley Johnston (Meredith), Chase Johnston (Amanda). She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Annabelle Johnston, Lily Johnston, and Hailynn Rice. Several nieces and nephews also survive her and held a special place in her heart.
Known for her quick wit, gracious presence, and competitive spirit, JoAn was an avid golfer and an accomplished bridge player. She was also a proud member of the "Hole-in-One Club," a testament to her talent and love for the game. Her steady presence, warm heart, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed.
A private family ceremony will be held to honor and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075-a place that held deep meaning in JoAn's life.
The staff of Clark Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service of Mrs. Hanes.
