James Harvey Crew

April 8, 1941 — May 14, 2026

Mr. James Crew, affectionately known as Jimmy, left us on May 14, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on April 8, 1941, in Dallas, GA, to the late Harvey and Ruby Crew. Jimmy spent his entire life, every single one of those 85 years, on the same road in Paulding County. He was a beloved fixture in the community, known for his roles as Black Bart and Fred White at the Town of YNot, delighting many with his cowboy spirit.

Jimmy loved life and found joy in simple pleasures-whether it was singing his heart out at karaoke, enjoying a delicious meal, or spending time at the beach. He was also an avid fisherman and took pride in crafting beautiful knives.

After dedicating 22 years of his career to Georgia Craft, he moved on to serve with the State of Georgia Building Authority, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Throughout his life, he was an active member of the church community, serving as a deacon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for 25 years and previously at Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Helen Ruff Gravett, and his sister Carolyn Crew.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, whom he loved so very much and was married to for 43 wonderful years, Doris Crew; children, Angie Crew Hobbs, Allen (Susan) Crew, Nita (Ron) Cooper, Tammy (Buddy) Hall, Arthur (Tanya) Crew; grandchildren, Chris (Chelsea) Crew, Morgan Thompson, Savannah (Caleb) Mooney, Summer (Jarrett) Wade, Sierra (Brent) Paris, Zack (Meagan) Hitchcock, McKenlee Hitchcock, Justin (Kristian) Hall, Shelton Hall, and Lauren Crew; and great grandchildren, Kensley Crew, Kayne Crew, Elijah Mooney, Ruby Mooney, Charlotte Mooney, Chasleigh Wade, Corryn Wade, Crew Wade, Aurora Paris, Tilley Paris, Mayzlee Hitchcock, Addyson Hitchcock, and Brantlee Bolden. Along with his sisters, Joyce Corley Baker, Georgia Anne (Phil) Penegar, Janice (Lee) Postell, Kathy (Phillip) Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Sam Clark Chapel on May 18, 2026, at 4:00 PM, following a visitation at Clark Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM the same day. Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating the wonderful life of Jimmy Crew and to share their stories, laughter, and love, because that's what he would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jimmy's name to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church at 340 Mt. Vernon Church Road, Dallas, Georgia 30157.

Rest in peace, Jimmy. You were truly a great man and one of a kind.
