James A. Parson

Mr. James A. Parson (PawPaw), age 79 of Acworth, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026. He was born March 25, 1947 in Hiram, Georgia, son of the late William Asberry Parson and the late Jewell Austin Parson.

James was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was one of best in his field of site development, having owned and operated Parson Grading and Hauling. James taught so many how to do things, like building a deck. He had a great love for the outdoors, whether he was hunting or fishing, and his favorite place to visit was the mountains. James was the king of pranksters who had a need for speed except on the Harley. He was a great country cook who was famous for his beef and gravy, chicken and dumplings, vegetable goulash and more. He loved catfish but best with head and bones intact. He seemed gruff and some said scary, but soft at heart. James loved deeper than some knew, with his greatest love being his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Parson Jones and Lisa Dawn Whitten.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Harrison Mills; two daughters, Amy (Scott) Knight and Jessica (Jimmy) Johnson; three sons, Perry (Angie) Parson, Adam (Cassie) Parson and Cory (Heather) Mills; sister, Mary Ann Moss; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 12 noon until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Sam Clark Chapel with Mr. Jerry Scott officiating. Interment service will be held in the Mt. Nebo Methodist Church Cemetery with Brayden Johnson, Hunter Mills, Austen Parson, Brandon Clark, Jimmy Johnson, Nick Payne, Ryan Parson, Jarred Knight and Jerry Lafollette serving as pallbearers.
