Huey Waitcel Turner

Huey Waitcel Turner passed away peacefully on August 10th, 2022. He was born in Burnt Hickory, Ga in 1932 to the late Rilla Lee & Alex Steven Turner.  Waitcel immersed himself in the Christian community for over 60 years.  He served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Song Leader at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church before becoming a faithful and current member of Narroway Baptist Church. After retiring from Rich’s, Waitcel built a poultry farm where he farmed for another 20 years.

Waitcel was blessed with a large and loving family.  He met his wife of 69 years, Shelba Brown, at a local basketball game where she was a basketball star.  They fell in love, married in 1953 and had four beautiful children. He adored his family and loved spending time with all of them. Waitcel was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Waitcel is survived by his wife, Shelba and their four children, Dale Price, Taylar and Stephen Wooten, Darrell Turner, David and Tammy Turner; the four grandchildren he absolutely adored, Ron and Shiloh Price, Tiffany Price, Mary Lee Turner, Alex and Amanda Turner; along with ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers Hulan Turner, Bailey Turner and I.B Turner and his two sisters Myrtice Dobbins and Julia Faye Austin.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, Ga on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  Funeral Services for Mr. Turner will begin at 4:00pm on Sunday, August 14 at Narroway Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Tibbitts officiating. Interment will follow at Narroway Baptist Church Cemetery with Ron Price, Stephen Wooten, Alex Turner, Michael Austin, Mark Austin, Joe Dupree, and Donnie Kuykendall serving as pallbearers.
