With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hilda Mae Bryson, who departed this life on June 16, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born on April 20, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, Hilda was the daughter of the late George Roland Compton and Ruby Bevel Compton. She lived a full life filled with love, laughter, faith, and the joy of connecting with others.
Hilda spent many years as a Billing Clerk for Gateway Transportation and later served as a Payables Clerk with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. She was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and warm personality. In her younger years, she enjoyed a brief stint as an usher at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, where her love for meeting and interacting with people first blossomed. Hilda was a devoted Christian and a member of Dallas First Assembly of God.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Hilda found her greatest happiness in spending time with family and friends. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed and valued. Her enthusiasm for life was contagious. Whether she was playing Bingo, bowling with friends, dancing the Jitterbug with the love of her life, Wally Sr., to her favorite Big Band music, or cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Hilda embraced every moment with joy. She also delighted in life's simple pleasures, especially ice cream, cookies, and sharing stories with those she loved.
In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Louie Bryson, Sr. who passed away on May 17, 2006; her first husband, Ted Denson; her son, Teddie Denson; and her daughter, Wanda Powell.
She is survived by her children: Connie Burgin; Walter "Wally" Bryson (Renza); Wendy Rowe (Michael); and Tammy Holloway (Scott). She is also survived by her half-brother, Jerry Compton (Diane).
Hilda leaves behind a loving legacy through her grandchildren: Brian Singleton (Kelly); Rodney Singleton; Cathy Tyson (Paul); Brandy Bryson; Clint Bryson; Jade Hopcraft (Chad); Abby Morris; Andrew Morris (Lisa); Dustin Powell; Jonathan Holloway; Janna Holloway; and Jack Denson. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and lots of nieces and nephews whom she cherished very much.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hilda's life during visitation at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the Sam Clark Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
Hilda will be laid to rest beside Walter at the Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m with Paul Tyson, Dustin Powell, Jack Denson, Tucker Clanton, Jonathan Holloway, Rodney Singleton, and Brian Singleton serving as Pallbearers.
As we reflect on Hilda's remarkable life, we remember a woman whose warmth, kindness, faith, and joyful spirit touched everyone she met. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, laughter, and cherished memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
