Mr. Harold Thomas Bowman passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on June 8, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Richard and Bessie Mae Bowman.
Harold was the kind of guy who would truly give you the shirt off his back-anyone who knew him can attest to that. His world revolved around his beloved daughter, Angie, and when she married and had two beautiful girls, Hannah and Jamie, Harold's life lit up even more. As his grandkids grew and started their families, Harold's heart grew right along with it.
In his younger days, Harold was a carpenter by trade. He was self-employed and loved to work. He also took to preaching, sharing his deep love for Jesus with anyone who would listen. You could often find him at local churches or even on the side of the road with his speaker box, spreading messages of hope and faith. His passion for gardening was equally big; Harold loved tending to his garden filled with tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors alike.
Despite facing personal challenges after an accident in the early 1980s that left him paralyzed from the waist down, Harold's spirit remained unbroken. His resilience and determination transformed his life and inspired many. Through his friendship with a gentleman named Norm, whom Harold met while recovering, Harold found new passions such as hunting and bowling. He became a professional handicap bowler, competing nationwide, and his dedication to the sport was recognized with a Hall of Fame ring. Moreover, he organized tournaments for fellow wheelchair bowlers, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Along with his father, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers Leonard Bowman and Leroy Bowman.
Harold is survived by his wife, Linda McCoy Bowman, with whom he has been happily married for the past 58 years. Daughter, Angie (James) Holland; Granddaughters, Hannah (Stewart) Cunningham and Jamie (Matt) Buckner; great grandchildren, Mattie Buckner, Leighton Cunningham, Eli Buckner, Lawson Cunningham, and Briggs Buckner; brother, Randall Bowman and William Bowman; and sister, Diane Phillips.
To honor Harold's life, a visitation will take place on February 5, 2026, at Clark Funeral Home starting at 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service in the Sam Clark Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. Harold will then be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Matt Buckner, Stewart Cunningham, James Holland, Sammy Bowman, Randall Bowman, William Bowman, and Mark Buckner serving as pallbearers. Eli Buckner and Lawson Cunningham will serve as honorary pallbearers.
