Gregory Shane Thornton, Sr., "Shane" passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 53. Born on August 3, 1972, in Rome, Georgia, Shane was a father, grandfather, brother, and a cherished friend to many. He resided in Rockmart, Georgia, where his life was filled with dedication to his family and work.
Shane was known to everybody as a hardworking man. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Grading Supervisor for nearly four decades. Shane's entire career was served at Plateau Excavation up until his last year of life, at which point he began working at Civil Site Services alongside his son, Shane Jr., and daughter, Emma. Shane enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, going to the gym, and spending time with his family. Not only was he proud to be a father, but he was thrilled to become a grandfather nearly three years ago.
Shane is survived by his four children: Addie Womack and her husband Devon, Shane Thornton, Jr., Emma Thornton, and Allie Grace Thornton; his sister, Pam Henry, and her husband Kenny; his grandchildren, Ruby and Cameron Womack; and Jennifer Thornton, the mother of his four children, with whom he spent over 30 years creating a life with.
In honor of Shane's life and legacy, a funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Clark Funeral Home. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 12:00 pm until the service hour, allowing family and friends to come together, share their stories, and offer condolences. He will be laid to rest in Yorkville Memorial Gardens.
