Gary Daniel Thaxton passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was born on June 3, 1935, don of the late, William "Bill" and Imogene Cooper Thaxton in Hiram, Georgia.

Gary retired from the Cobb County Fire Department after 25 years. He was a simple man who enjoyed the country life. Gary loved the outdoors. He loved to deer hunt. He loved farming and was an excellent vegetable gardener. He raised many different types of animals. Gary was an experienced mill worker. His woodworking skills were often put to use when making toy boxes for his children and grandchildren or when making rabbit boxes with his grandchildren. He found joy in watching old westerns and learning about history. Most of all, Gary loved his family with all his heart. He loved spending time with his wife, his children, and his many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a brother, Hulon Thaxton; a half-sister, Margerete Joe Hardy; a half-brother, D.W. Dean; and a grandson, Nathan Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Faye Thaxton; three daughters, Treshia (Jim) Lindsey, Sandi (Travis) Hembree, and Lynn (Tim) Kanouff; a son, Steve (Jennifer) Grogan; a sister, Linda Lindsey; five granddaughters, Vanessa (Mark) Woodard, Tristen Hembree, Skyler Hembree, Morgan Moon, Whitney Yarbrough; five grandsons, Nicky Lindsey, Jesse Hall, Cody Hall, Josh Grogan, and Hudson Grogan; eight great-grandsons, Bradley Woodard, Chase Lindsey, Tiffton Hall, Wyatt Hall, Hunter Hall, Beckett Hall, Jaylen Yarbrough, and Tigg Moon; five great-granddaughters, Bree (Brandon) Gentry, Leeah (Jacob) Wynn, Aubree Hall, Avery Hall, and Layton Hall; and two great-great-grandchildren, Anniston Gentry, and Jett Wynn.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, February, 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Service for Gary will be held at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Troy Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gary's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
