Donald "Donnie" Harold Benedict, Jr., age 71, of Tallapoosa, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at his residence. Donnie was the son of the late Donald Benedict, Sr. and Joyce Benedict and lived in Georgia all his life. He retired from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, where he spent many years protecting and serving the residents of Douglas County.

Donnie enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved fishing, golfing, and deer hunting. He cherished the time spent pursuing these hobbies and making memories with those he loved.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his sister, Belinda Cope.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Rebecca Benedict; daughter, Brittany Horne and her husband, Joe; brother, Ronnie Benedict; sister, Demeris Bohannon; grandchildren, Justin Massey and his wife, Katie, Haley Duke, and Alexis Duke; great-grandchildren, Waylon Massey and Everleigh Massey; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A service to honor Donnie's life will be held at Bethany Christian Church in Dallas, GA at a later date.
