Dennis Harling Pope, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, proud Air Force veteran, passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on May 4, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, Dennis lived a rich and fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dennis was a man of unwavering dedication, both in his personal and professional life. After earning his high school diploma, he served his country with honor, dedicating several years of his life to the United States Air Force. His service in the Air Force instilled in him a strong sense of patriotism, a value he carried throughout his lifetime.

Following his military career, Dennis embarked on a successful journey in the finance industry, where he thrived as a Vice President and Supervisor at Peoples Financial Corporation. Dennis had an incredible work ethic, always going the extra mile to provide exceptional service. His commitment and love for his job were truly inspiring.

Outside of his career, Dennis was a devoted family man. He shared a deep and loving bond with his wife, Mary Pope, who stood by his side throughout their many years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and nurturing home, filled with love and laughter. Dennis' big heart was evident to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He cherished his family, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones.

Dennis found joy and fulfillment in various community organizations. In his younger years, he was an active member of the New Georgia Ruritan Club, where he contributed to the betterment of his community. He held a special place in his heart for his fellow veterans and was a dedicated member of the American Legion. Dennis was also involved with the Georgia Independent Automobile Dealers Association where he was Senior Vice President at Large (a permanent position on the executive board). He was the winner of 21 crystal eagles from the NIADA (National Automobile Dealers Association), and he was the first and only winner of the Bronze Eagle awarded by NIADA. Because of his achievements, the Dennis Pope Achievement Award was created in 2016 and still continues today.

During his free time, Dennis enjoyed pursuing his passion for golf. He also had a deep love for animals, particularly his beloved companion, Chico, who was always by his side.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Harling and Sophie Louise Pope, his brothers, Alan Pope, Mickey Pope, and by his sister, Eleanor Pope Kruger.

Dennis is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Pope, his daughter, Kimberly (David) Gazaway, son, Thomas (Denise L.) Botts, grandchildren, Donovan (Jennifer) Gazaway, Ryan (Rachael) Gazaway, Julie (Derrick) Botts, and Tiffany (Cody) Tomlinson. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Grayson Gazaway, Jaden Adams, and Wylie Tomlinson, his sister, Sharon Naturale, and by his fur baby, Daisy.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Clark Funeral Home and Chapel. A service for Dennis will follow at 2:00pm at Clark Funeral Home and Chapel with Pastor Peter Harris, and Pastor Waymon Landmon officiating. Following the service, Dennis will be laid to rest at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, Georgia.

Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering patriotism. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory forever reside in our hearts.
