Delmos Burks

October 2, 1949 — May 6, 2021

Delmos Lee Burks was born on October 2, 1949 in Gary, Indiana to Johnie and Reva Burks. He graduated Emerson High School in the class of 1967. At the age of 18, Delmos began working at what is now called, Arcelor Mittal Steel Mill. He worked there for 48 years, before retiring in 2016. Right at the start of his steel workers career, Delmos was called to service in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. Honorably discharged, Delmos returned to the mill wondering what was next. Then he met the love of his life, Mardell Webb Burks. Delmos and Mardell created a humble life of family and love together for 43 years, until his wife passed in 2017. Delmos L. Burks always maintained a solid foundation and bond in his faith with God. He lived his life with what he believed was his purpose, to be a great father and family man.

Delmos was preceded in death by his wife, Mardell Webb Burks; his father, Johnie Lee Burks; mother, Reva Moore Burks; sister, Jeanette Marie Burks; brothers, Johnie L. Burks, Jr. and Nathaniel Burks; son, Craig A. Taylor; dearest mother in-law, Annie B. Nichols.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Yulonda) Worthman, Daniel B. (Tracie) Burks; daughters, Jael M. Burks, Deborah A. Burks, Jetonne L. (Aaron) Greer; sisters, Retired MSgt Reva M. (Michael) Burks-Flood, Jurnieack (Teal) Cross, Everlena Cooper, Peggy Thompson; brother, Leroy Burks; Godchild, Tyree Reaves; sister in-laws, Bertha Webb and Vern (Jerome) Webb-White; special friends, Ardenia (Sheba) Andrews-Webb, Valerie (Tamar) Tennione; 13 grandchildren; and a host of other loving relative and friends.
