Daphne Noreen Scott was born on June 9, 1961, to George Barksdale (deceased) and Lilly Scott in East Meadow, New York. She departed this world peacefully after a courageous battle with her health. Daphne entered this world as a powerful force and left it with the same strength and impact.
Raised in Hempstead, New York, Daphne received her education in the Hempstead School District, graduating from Hempstead High School in 1979. She furthered her studies at Nassau Community College and attended Barbizon Modeling and Acting School, where she discovered a passion for sewing, creating her own clothing, which she proudly modeled during her time there. Her professional journey included working for American Airlines, a Correctional Officer in Lisbon Falls, Maine, then onto Paulding County Juvenile Correctional Facility, as well as Home Health Aide in the medical field.
In her youth, Daphne demonstrated her passion for double Dutch and competed in several competitions. Daphne had a competitive spirit and would challenge anyone who step up to the plate. She fiercely protected her siblings, often proclaiming, "I'm a Payback, and these are my siblings-hands off!" While residing in Mississippi, she opened "Grandma's Kitchen," renowned for her famous fried pork chop sandwiches and Kool-Aid pickles. Her nurturing spirit and deep commitment to service were evident throughout her life.
Following the passing of her eldest daughter, Ronisha Starr, in February 1999, Daphne made the significant decision to relocate, first to Virginia, then to Mississippi, and ultimately settling in Georgia. In her free time, she cherished moments spent with family and found solace in a church community in Georgia, where she felt at home.
Today, we honor a woman whose strength was unmatched, whose presence brightened every room, and whose legacy remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Daphne's words were filled with wisdom, her laughter was contagious, and her love knew no limits. Daphne remained steadfast in her beliefs, courageously stood up for what was right and caring for others with a heart full of compassion.
Today, we honor Daphne's life-a woman whose kindness left a lasting imprint on all, whose quiet strength influenced those around her, and whose legacy continues to thrive in the hearts of everyone she touched. She was a devoted mother, an adventurous grandmother, and a wise, no-nonsense woman. Daphne was a resilient woman who overcame countless challenges. Even as her health declined, she continued to fight until the very end with grace, smiles, and laughter. May we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, embraced by the divine, and watching over us with the same love she freely shared in life.
