Billy Gene Harris, of Paulding County, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2026, at his home at Vitality Living Overlook in Dallas, Georgia. He was 88 years old.

Born on November 15, 1937, Billy lived a full and vibrant life marked by his quick wit, warm spirit, and deep love for music. Known by family and friends as a true joker, Billy had a gift for making people laugh and bringing light into any room he entered. His sense of humor and easygoing nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Billy was also an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the mandolin, a passion that brought him great joy throughout his life and connected him with many others who shared his love of music.

After spending decades working as a dedicated member of Millwright Local 1236, Billy retired and began a second career in public service. He went on to serve for 12 years as a Deputy Sheriff with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, where he continued to make a positive impact in his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise McElroy Harris and Paul Herbert Harris, as well as his brothers, Tommy Harris and Herbert Harris.

Billy was a devoted husband to Kay (Trudy) Harris. The two were married on February 11, 1989, and shared many years of love and companionship. He was a cherished brother to his surviving siblings: Ricky, Sammy, Mary, and Marie.

He was a proud father and stepfather to Norma, Perry, Mary Jane, Denise, and Lisa. He is also survived by his six grandchildren-Shannon, Kerri, Breezy, Dylan, Zuri, and Michael-and six great-grandchildren-Jordan, Alexis, Logan, Lucas, Lucy, and Liliana-all of whom carry forward his legacy of laughter, resilience, and love.

Billy will be remembered for his humor, his musical talent, and the kindness he showed to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of joyful memories that will be treasured by his family and friends for years to come.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
