Barbara McBrayer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on October 27, 1947, in Red Bay, Alabama, Barbara was the only daughter of the late Wayne and Betty Hughes. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Barbara was married to her sweetheart, Talmadge McBrayer, for an incredible 59 years. As they approached their 60th wedding anniversary in April 2026, their bond remained unbreakable. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and hard work, launching their own business, MCS Painting, in 1972. Barbara was the heart of the office, juggling daily activities with grace and determination.
Barbara was an active member of New Georgia Baptist Church, where she made many lifelong friends. Before that, she was a familiar face at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Wherever she went, Barbara had a knack for making friends and lifting spirits with her warm smile and kind words.
She loved to explore, traveling to the beach, spending time in the North Georgia Mountains, or just relaxing at the lake. Barbara's zest for life and her ability to connect with others made her shine bright in any situation.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Talmadge McBrayer; son, Josh (Kaley) McBrayer; daughter, Karen (Gary) Armstrong; sister-in-law, Marie (Thomas) Butler; and her best friend, Linda Kinnin. Barbara was the greatest "Gran" to her three grandsons: Harrison McBrayer, Reed McBrayer, and Sam Armstrong. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
The family will hold a visitation at Clark Funeral Home on February 25, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Barbara will lie in state at New Georgia Baptist Church on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM. Funeral services will take place at New Georgia Baptist Church on February 26, 2026, at 2:30 PM with Dr. Keith Stell officiating. Barbara will then be laid to rest in Paulding Memorial Gardens.
Barbara McBrayer will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her kindness, strength, and the love she shared with everyone around her.
