Ashton Vann Merritt passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2026, at the age of 37. Born on September 8, 1988, in Marietta, Georgia, Ashton created lasting memories with his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Ashton was known for his adventurous spirit and wide-ranging interests. A passionate BMX rider, enthusiastic basketball player, and Tae Kwon Do black belt, he approached life with an energy that inspired those around him. His love for Tim Burton films reflected his creative side, while his fascination with history revealed a mind eager for knowledge and storytelling. Despite being a self-proclaimed terrible dancer, Ashton never let that hinder his joy for life-often breaking into dance whenever the mood struck. His fondness for milkshakes and days spent at the beach brought him simple pleasures that he truly cherished.
Ashton is survived by his beloved sons, Aidan Merritt, William Merritt, and Vann Merritt; his parents, Tim and Nancy Merritt; his sister, Tori (Nathan) Evers; and a host of extended family members and friends. His legacy of love and curiosity will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow in the Sam Clark Chapel at 11:00 AM. Ashton will be laid to rest at Praise Tabernacle Cemetery with Tim Merrit, Zac Boatright, Aidan Merritt, Nathan Evers, and Nick Evers serving as pallbearers.
As we celebrate Ashton's life, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the indomitable spirit with which he lived.
