Marjorie York Watts

January 11, 1935 — January 13, 2020

Marjorie York Watts, age 85, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 11, 1935 to her late parents; Rev. Lloyd York and Myrtle York. Mrs. Watts worked as the deputy tax commissioner for Paulding County for 31 years and was a faithful member of New Canaan Baptist Church. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Durrell Watts, beloved sister, Glaydean Huff, and brother, Oscar York.

While attending Dallas High School, Marjorie was an avid and talented basketball player and continued to be part of a special group of her classmates she called the "53 Girls". Marjorie enjoyed playing the piano for her daddy, Rev. Lloyd York as a teenager and continued playing for church services for many decades. She always said her daddy would start leading a song and she just followed him.

Marjorie's working career spanned over forty years with Southern Bell in seeking advertisements for the Yellow Pages, Paulding Federal Savings and Loan Association, Dallas High School as the school secretary, Selective Service, and ultimately, she enjoyed her 31- year career as Paulding County Tax Commissioner and Tag Agent alongside her Husband, James D. Watts.

Over the years, her hobbies included walking, water aerobics, gardening, reading, and home decorating. For many years, she was a member of The Dallas Garden Club, where she enjoyed the friendships of many dear ladies. Marjorie loved cooking for her family and others and specialized particularly in baking biscuits and delicious chocolate pound cake and cooking fried chicken.

Above all earthly things, her favorite in life was her family. She had a very special relationship with her daughter, Jill, and even served as her matron of honor. That closeness remained throughout her life and became even more special when her grandson, Will, came along. He was the joy and sunshine of her and Jim's life as grandparents and most recently, her eyes lit up every time she saw her new little great granddaughter, Hollyn… the families newest little ray of sunshine. Even still, her time loving and caring for her husband for over 63 years was the joy and passion of her life. They were married for over 63 years and enjoyed each others company through the best and worst times. Quite often, they found great joy in encouraging and helping others who had also suffered the struggles of a tragic accident. The guiding force for their life together and making the best out of the worst was their strong faith and relationship with Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior.

Survivors include her daughter, Jill Coats and her husband, Terry, grandchild, William Coats and his wife, Kara, great granddaughter, Hollyn Leanne Coats and several nieces and nephews.
