Rev. Lonnie Poore

May 28, 1941 — August 20, 2017

Brother Lonnie Poore, a United States Navy veteran and an experienced battlefield soldier in God’s Mighty Army received his final orders and reported to his eternal destination for peace and rest on Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was born on May 28, 1941, in Saltville, VA, to the late Claude Preston & Lucille Poore, and was preceded in death by his daughter, Geneva Poore, brother, Thomas Payton Poore and sister, Delores Poore.

Brother Lonnie, an old-school soldier, received on-the-job training on his knees and fought the devil in the deepest trenches armed with the precious Word of God.  He was supported by his helpmate of 52 years and together they traveled to various churches as he was called upon to conduct revivals and serve as an under shepherd for congregations seeking an old-fashion preacher that relied on the true leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Brother Lonnie was a humble and compassionate servant and was kind and loving to all.  He treasured his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and church family.  He cherished the blessings bestowed upon him and his family.  He stood stern and firm in his faith.  He was a valuable mentor to young ministers and new Christians.  He was precious to those that served with him.

Times when Brother Lonnie was tired and weary in body, he would somehow muster the strength to uphold all that he stood for and reflect the upmost respect and honor for the Christian faith.  A true warrior of God trusting that his Heavenly Father was in control and determined to always give God the Honor and Glory for any accomplishments.

As Brother Lonnie completed his earthly journey and arrived to answer his final call, should you wonder how he is doing, no doubt he would smile and say “better than I deserve.”
